Administrators and former VSU leaders challenged the academe to help revolutionize agriculture in the region, during the Farmers and Fisherfolk’s Day (FFD), Aug 11, at the VSU Gymnatorium.
In his speech as guest speaker, Dr. Wilson Cerbito, executive director of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Unit VIII (DA-RFU-VIII), shared DA’s action plan, and identified which aspects would need VSU’s technological expertise.
Dr. Fernando A. Bernardo, the first president of VSU, then Visayas State College of Agriculture (ViSCA), said he envisions a speedy success for VSU in the “agrivolution” owing to its strong partnerships with government agencies.
Among the challenges thrown to VSU include:
Philippine Coconut Authority Regional Manager Engr. Joel Pilapil, and former VSU President Dr. Samuel S. Go graced the FFD. Ramon T. Barbosa, regional manager of a private company engaged in coco coir fiber manufacturing, tackled the prospects and opportunities of the coconut industry. The FFD is one of the highlights of the VSU 92nd Founding Anniversary Celebration.
