The Visayas State University has been named as one of the top performing state universities and colleges in the country for the year 2014 by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), Inc.  The three universities which hurdled the evaluation for  Level IV Reaccredited status based on number of programs and ranking are as follows:  West Visayas State University – 4 programs, rank 1; Central Luzon State University – 3 programs, rank 2; and Visayas State University – 1 program (Agriculture), rank 3.

Moreover, the University was included among the top 12 Ranking SUCs with the most number of programs awarded Level III Reaccredited status. These programs are as follows: Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness (BSAB), Bachelor of Animal Science (BAS), Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd), Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED), Master of Science in Agriculture (MS Agriculture), Master of Agricultural Development in Agriculture (MAgDev Agriculture), Master of Science in Education (MS Education), and Master of Agricultural Development in Education (MAgDev Education).  The same programs were also awarded with “Qualified for Level IV” by the AACCUP.

The awards were received by Dr. Jose L. Bacusmo, VSU President, from Dr. Manuel T. Corpus, AACCUP Executive Director, and Dr. Luis M. Sorolla, Jr., AACCUP President, on the occasion of the 28th AACCUP Annual National Conference on February 16, 2015 held at the Manila Hotel, One Rizal Park, Manila.

The AACCUP also awarded the 20 accreditors who standout in 2014 survey visits.  According to AACCUP, the only criterion used for this was the number of times they did accreditation work.  Out of the 1,310 accreditors who participated in various survey visits in 2014, 20 of theme emerged as “standouts” in which Ms. Rebecca B. Napiere, retired VSU Librarian, topped in the list with 35 survey visits conducted.

On the other hand, Dr. Lualhati M. Noriel, VSU’s Director of the Quality Assurance Center, and Dr. Beatriz S. Belonias, Dean of the Graduate School, were also named by the AACCUP as among the Top 1 placers, together with other Top 1 and Top 2 placers, who attended in one of the seven outcomes-based training workshops conducted by the AACCUP in 2014.  The top two participants are picked on the basis of their scores in the required end-of-training examination in which 45 of them emerged as topnotchers in the seven outcomes-based training workshops conducted in the different dates and venues throughout the country.  The awards were received by Dr. Noriel, including those of Ms. Napiere and Dr. Belonias on February 18, 2015.    

 The giving of awards was part of the 28th AACCUP Annual National Conference on February 16-18, 2015 with the theme “Assessing the Initial Gains of Outcomes-Based Assurance – Response to ASEAN 2015 Quest for Quality.”  The University was represented by Dr. Edgardo E. Tulin, VP for Instruction, and Dr. L. M. Noriel.
