| The Department
of Business Management (DBM), of the College of
Engineering and Agri-Industries (CEAI) of the Leyte State University
(LSU) was created upon approval of Board Resolution No. 23 series
of 2001, by the Board of Regents on November 14, 2001. The department
started in 1976, as an agribusiness section of the former Department
of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness (DAEA) of the then,
Visayas State College of Agriculture.

Academic
Programs & Course Offerings
The
Department of Business Management offers the Bachelor of Science
in Agribusiness (BSAB) curriculum with majors in Business Management. It is a four-year degree
program designed to prepare undergraduate students to be technically
and managerially competent as agribusiness managers or entrepreneurs.
The degree program aims to produce graduates who can integrate
knowledge in basic and advanced management theories and principles
to the actual management of agribusiness enterprises; apply
analytical tools for business decisions, project assessment
and evaluation; and are skilled in the preparation of financial
plans and budgets.

Facilities
The
following department facilities and equipment are used to facilitate
and perform the instruction, research, extension and production
related functions: 1 lecture room, 1 lecture/laboratory room,
1 overhead projector, 1 typewriter, 4 units Office Computer
with internet connection, 2 units Dot Matrix Printers, 1 unit
TV, 1 unit VCD Player, 1 unit Electric Mimeographing Machine,
1 unit photocopying machine, 1 unit fax machine, and 1 unit
digital camera.

Student Organization
Society of
Agribusiness Students (SABS). This is an organization
composed of students enrolled in the B.S. in Agribusiness
curriculum. Membership to the organization is voluntary. SABS
undertakes the following activities annually:

SABS
Valentine's Express (SAVALEX) - this is a messengerial
and service activity done every Valentines Day to generate
funds for the organization.

SABS
Entrepreneurial Booth - this is a one week fund-raising
activity undertaken simultaneously with LSU'S Anniversary.
SABS members sell food and drinks to visitors.

Alay-Linis
- this is a clean-up activity done in LSU campus.
-
Bundle
of Joy - this is undertaken every December before
Christmas break. The organization distributes food, clothing
and other gifts to poor residents in nearby barangays of LSU.

Educational
Field Trip - SABS members go on educational field trip
to business firms in Cebu to relate the knowledge and skills
they have learned in the classroom to actual business
settings.

Tribute
to BSAB Graduates - this is an activity undertaken every
March or April to pay tribute to all BSAB graduates.
- BSAB Freshmen Orientation
- SABS co-sponsors this activity with the Department of
Business Management every June or July to orient incoming
freshmen or transferees.
- Organizational meetings
- these are held periodically to inform/update members about
organizational matters.
- Induction and Acquaintance
Party - this is held every June or July to induct
elected SABS officers and welcome new members to the
organization
- Tutorial Services -
SABS conducts tutorial services in math, calculus,
accounting and other subjects requested by members.
- Other Service Activities
- SABS members likewise assist in department-based
trainings, seminars and other activities by acting as
facilitators, messengers, etc.
