Bachelor of Science in Biology
BS in Biology has three major offerings—BS in Biology major in BOTANY, MARINE BIOLOGY and ECOLOGY and soon to offer B.S. Biology major in Molecular Biology and Genetics. These three areas require a thesis output at the end of the 4-year course.
Bachelor of Science in Biology (Botany)
Botany as a major course aims to discover, maintain, and transmit knowledge concerning basic plant biology including taxonomy, systematics and physiology and its conservation particularly as it relates to the flora of Mt. Pangasugan in Western Leyte.

Master of Science major in Botany (M.S. Botany)
The M.S. Botany program at VSU provides advanced education to the graduates from the fields of biology, botany, forestry, horticulture, plant breeding, weed science and other related fields in the Visayas and Mindanao who are working in government agencies. Academic and research institutions, private corporations and those engaged in private business, like conventional and hydroponics plant nurseries and tissue culture. Graduates from the bachelor's degree in other fields of specialization may be accepted to the program subject to additional requirements set by th graduate school.

Master of Biology (MBio)
The Department also offers a Master in Biology (MBio) which is a non-thesis graduate program in consortium with Leyte Normal University, Tacloban City. This program upgrades the academic qualifications of tertiary faculty of state colleges and universities to gain a Masters degree under the Faculty Development Program of CHED. The implementation of this joint program is spearheaded by LNU but some major courses espciallly those having laboratory are offered in VSU. Courses under the program are offered on weekends.
