On May 10-12, 2012, Dr. Julie D. Tan went to PCIEERD-DOST (Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research & Development -Department of Science and Technology), Manila to present a paper entitled “ Product Optimization and Market Testing of Dessert Red Wine from Purple Taro and Black Rice “. She discussed the results with the evaluators from FCD, ITDI, DOST, DTI. CITEM and related agencies and suggestions for Phase II project on piloting and commercialization under TechniCom Funds of DOST.

“Duma” is the local name for alternative staples such as rootcrops and banana, the main staple being rice. These alternative staples abound in the whole province of Surigao del Sur, hence these rootcrops were given emphasis during the Agri-Trade Fair in time for the celebration of the 52nd anniversary of Araw ng Surigao del Sur which was celebrated from June 15-19, 2012.
