PhilRootcrops fetes 34th anniversary with educational activities PDF Print E-mail

The Philippine Root Crop Research and Training Center (PhilRootcrops) under the active leadership of Dr. Julieta R. Roa commemorated its 34th Anniversary Celebration on March 21-25, 2011.  Hinged on the theme “Health and Wealth Through Roots and Tubers,” the 5-day anniversary celebration pulled out various activities that made the affair meaningful and exciting.

ViCARP gets a grand slam in PCARRD's Biennial Search for Outstanding Institution, Research Administrator and Scientist PDF Print E-mail

There is a reason for the Visayas Consortium for  Agriculture and Resources Program  (ViCARP) and its lead institution, the Visayas  State University (VSU), to celebrate. This is because for the first time in the history Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry, and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCARRD), one of the 13 councils of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), that an R & D consortium has won  three major awards—the Tanglaw Award, the PANTAS for Research Administrator and the P A N T A S for Researcher/Scientist categories.

PhilRootcrops Staff Finalize the Strategic Plan PDF Print E-mail

In light of the challenges of climate change, the persistence of poverty and food insecurity, and the increasing demands of rootcrops for industrial uses and micro and small enterprises, PhilRootcrops must respond with strategies that are effective leading to efficiency in rootcrop production and sustainability of efforts. Strategic Planning activities were in line with this response starting with two sessions in 2009 that built on previous planning initiatives.

Production and Processing Training Held in Libas and Manlico, Hinunangan, So. Leyte PDF Print E-mail

A cassava and sweetpotato production and processing training held in Libas and Manlico in Hinunangan on June 8-9, 2010 was participated by 90 farmers, housewives and processors. This training, followed by the establishment of the techno-demo farm in Hinunangan and Liloan,  is part of the action plan formulated during the April workshop.

PhilRootcrops’ Staff Resource Person of WOFEX 2010 PDF Print E-mail

Dr. Julie D. Tan served as a resource person in the World Food Exhibit (WOFEX) for the Visayas held at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) on April 17, 2010. The exhibit on the “4th Food Processing, Packaging and Foodservice Expo” ran for 4 days attracting hundreds of participants mostly in the food processing line including the machines and packaging support systems.
