VSU REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH YOUTH-BASED (R-HUB) CENTER

Influencing and helping young people make informed and responsible decisions about their sexual and reproductive health and rights is the raison d'etre of the LSU RHUB Center. Specifically, it aims to increase the level of knowledge, attitudes, skills and practices of the youth on sexual and reproductive health and rights thereby influencing them to become responsible citizens and leaders. The Center also serves as a convergence point for the youth, teachers, parents, and other interested groups in the pursuit of safe, healthy, responsible sexual lives. It is the official service outfit of the University Student Services Office (USSO).

Vision

The lead center in Adolescent Reproductive Health (ARH) in the Visayas

Goals:

  • Education of the entire VSU population and its neigboring barangays and municipalities on gender and ARH
  • Mainstreaming of RHUB operation in the University through the adoption of policies to support RH-related activities and initiatives,
  • Training and maintaining a pool of educators and committed RH advocates.

Main Activities:   

  • Capacity-building activities such as workshops, seminars and training on gender, sexuality, and reproductive health and rights, leadership and values formation which are handled by a core of well-trained Peer Educators and invited technical experts

  • Peer counseling and referral services are extended to the youth especially on reproductive health problems in coordination with the Guidance Counselors, Dormitory Advisers and the medical team,

  • Mini Internet Cafe gives the youth unhindered access to sexual health information, hone their computer skills, provide them means to link with other youth activities, and at the same time the cafe acts as an income-generating activity of the Center

  • Recreation and resource services are made available for the youth such as library materials so that they will have access to sexual health information while the various board games provide alternative ways to spend their free time.
