Team VSU will compete with more than 3,000 athletes from 10 state colleges and universities in Region VIII including delegates from NSU, Southern Leyte State University, University of the Philippines-Visayas Tacloban Campus, University of Eastern Philippines, North Western Samar State University, Leyte Normal University, Eastern Visayas State University, Palompon Institute of Technology, Samar State University, Eastern Samar State University.
 
Mary Jean Sapan, VSU Institute of Human Kinetics official, said Team VSU has been doing well in the competitions and expressed her high hopes for the athletes.
 
“Despite the very short time of training, they still play with spirit. We’re happy for their performance and we hope that they will maintain their standing,” said Sapan.
 
VSU’s student paper, The Amaranth, has been accompanying and campaigning for Team VSU using #GoTeamVSU. The Amaranth is also giving reports of the SCUAA events as they happen through vlogging.
 
 
SCUAA 2016 commenced in a parade of athletes. Team VSU’s was led by VSU President Dr. Edgardo Tulin, IHK Director Dr. Aleli Villocino, and Mr. and Ms. SCUAA 2016 candidates Gabriel Rustia and Susan Mitchell Pastoril.

Meanwhile, in his opening speech, Sports Director Rosendo Alevio of NSU recognized VSU’s assistance, through IHK Director Dr. Aleli Villocino, in the preparation for this year’s activity.

Alevio said he owes the initial success of this year’s SCUAA to Dr. Villocino’s team. This year’s swimming competitions are held in VSU.

The SCUAA is an inter-collegiate sports association that organizes athletic programs of different state colleges and universities in the Philippines.
