Normal Semestral Load The normal semestral load study load is ordinarily prescribed by the curriculum in which the student is enrolled. This load usually consists of 18 to 21 units over and above Physical Education (PE), and National Service Training Program (NSTP).

A student is considered "full time" or carrying a full load when he carries all subjects prescribed in his curriculum.

  • Excess Load - A graduating student may be permitted a to carry a heavier load.

However, P.E. and NSTP units will constitute and excess load if taken in the third, fourth, or fifth year. These subjects are supposed to be taken in the first two (2) years of college as assigned in the curriculum.

Normal Summer Load During the summer session a student may carry a normal load of six (6) units for technical or laboratory subjects and nine (9) units for non-laboratory subjects.

Sequence of Subjects Advanced subjects should not be given to the student unless he has already passed the pre-requisites of these subjects.

Physical Education (P.E.) All students are further required to earn eight (8) units in PE during the first two years.

 

Scholastic Deliquency

  • Warning Any student who obtains at the end of the semester final grades below "3" in 26-50 percent of the total number of academic units in which he is registered shall be warned by the Registrar through the Dean and advised to improve his work.
  • Probation Any student who obtains at he end of the semester final grades of below "3" in 51-75 percent of the total number of academic units in which he has final grade shall be placed on probation for the succeeding semester and his load be reduced accordingly by the Dean.
  • Dismissal The following will be disqualified from enrollment in ViSCA.;
    • Any student who obtains at the end of the semester final grades below "3" in at least 76-100 percent of the total number of units in which he has final grades.
    • Any student on probation who fails in 50 percent or more of the total number of academic units in which he received final grades.

ABSENCE FROM CLASS Any student who is absent for one (1) or two (2) days from the class must obtain an excuse slip from the Registrar to be presented to his instructor not later than the second session of the class after the date of the student's return. For absence beyond (2) days, the student should get an excuse slip from the Office of student affairs. Excuses are for time missed only. All work covered by the class during his absence shall be made up to the satisfaction of the teacher and within a reasonable time.

IDENTIFICATION CARD (ID) A permanent student identification card is issued to each student at the time of his initial enrollment at VSU.

Every student is required to bring along his official ID and to present it to any person in authority upon demand. The ID is required for the following:

  • Use of College facilities and services like library, infirmary, guidance services, recreation facilities in the College Union (CU) Building and PE department/gymnatorium.
  • Admittance to programs, convocations, lectures, film showings, and others if necessary.

In case of loss of ID's the student should see the person in-charge at the Registrar's Office for certain procedural requirements.

 

Examinations and Grading System

Besides regular class quizzes and tests, two official general examinations are given every term: midterm and final examinations. Schedules of these examinations are indicated in the school calendar and posted on bulletin boards.

  • No student is allowed to take mid-term and final examinations unless he/she presents the Examination permit issued by the Cashier's office.
  • Grade reports are sent to parents by mail at the end of each term.
  • Students may claim copies of their grades at the Registrar's Office or from the Dean's Office at the end of each term.

Inc - Grade given to a student who lacks required reports/final examination or needs some additional work.

Dropped - Mark given to a student who withdraws from the subjects and/or has incurred absences beyond the allowable limit.

S/U (Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory) - Grade given for thesis work in progress. The phrase "In Progress" must be placed under remarks.

Audit - No credit

  • A grade of Incomplete (Inc.) may be removed by completing the required work and or some additional work and may be taking examination arranged between the teacher and the student.
  • Special examinations due to failure to take the final examinations may be taken without fee during the following schedule:
    • Regular examination period if the subject in which the student missed his final examination is included in the final examination for the period during which the said removal examination is to be taken.
    • Validating examination period which starts two weeks before the registration period provided that the examination for the particular course is taken at the time the same course has been scheduled in the validating examination.
  • Removal examinations may be taken any time upon approval of the Dean and upon payment of required fee per subject.
  • An incomplete grade not removed within one year automatically becomes a ""5.00".
  • The teacher shall personally submit to the Registrar's Office the completed grade. If the teacher cannot personally submit the grade, the submission must be done by a duly authorized person but in no instance shall submission be done by the student doing the completion work.
  • All applicants for completion of incomplete grades must be cleared of all old accounts before they are allowed to tile such application for completion.
