In commemoration of the historic event which marked the restoration of Philippine democracy, the Institute for Strategic Research and Developmentisrds_pix Studies (ISRDS) launched a week-long special of the observance of the 25th anniversary of the People Power Revolution at the ISRDS Training Hall.

With the theme "Reliving the Spirit of EDSA," the celebration began on February 21, 2011 with a photo exhibit and memorabilia of the major events that transpired in February 22-25, 1986 bloodless revolt. This was formed with a lecture on People Power with Dr. Eliseo R. Ponce, ISRDS Founding Director.

Among the highlights of the celebration were the Multi-stakeholders Forum on Land Grabbing and Agro-investment which was conducted on February 22, and film showing on February 23. Also, the ISRDS conducted a quiz bowl relating to EDSA events on February 24. Fabulous prizes were awarded to participating students. The first placer received P600 plus an EDSA t-shirt while the second placer received P450 plus gift items worth P300. The third placer also received gift items worth P200 and a cash award of P300.

Part of the event is the Eucharistic celebration which followed the closing of activities on the 24th day of February at the ISRDS Training Hall.

The celebration was aimed at increasing the students' awareness of the principles and values of the bloodless revolt, strengthening the meaning of democracy and restoring the democratic institutions of government, and at providing a venue for a meaningful celebration of the 25th Anniversary of People Power Revolution.



Leopard grabs championship in 2011 faculty and staff sportsfest

The Leopard Team was declared Overall Champion in this year's VSU Faculty and Staff Sportsfest held on February 16-18, 2011 at the VSU Grounds. The team headed by Dr. Edgardo E. Tulin, Vice President for Planning and Resource Generation, garnered a total of 235.5 points. It also grabbed the championship in the singing competition and dominated in the following events: walkathon, volleyball (w), tennis (m), badminton (m), athletics (m & w), and dama (w).

Ranked second was the Tigers with a total of 233 points. The team with Dr. Othello B. Capuno, Vice President for Research and Extension as coordinator, outshined other teams in the dance festival. Likewise, it also ruled in basketball (m), volleyball (m), and tennis (w).

The Eagles Team got the third place by gaining a total of 223 points. It bested other teams in most of the sports events and was declared as this years' champion in the Sports Category. Under the strong leadership of Dr. Oscar B. Posas, Vice President for Academic Affairs, they won the kickball (w), dama (m), billiards (m & w), table tennis (w) and badminton (mixed).

The defending champion, the Pythons Team, failed to maintain its spot for earning a total of 191 points. It emerged first place in chess competition both men and women, badminton (w) and table tennis mixed doubles. Dr. Roberto C. Guarte, Vice President for Administration and Finance, was the team coordinator.

The previous years' team composition was retained with the inclusion of the VSU external campuses in each team. To add more spice, new events were introduced in this year's competition such as the dama and billiards in the sports category and impersonation in the singing competition.

Dr. Jose L. Bacusmo, in his opening message said that "the objective of this annual activity is not only to reinvigorate the physical well-being of all VSU personnel but also to foster unity and cooperation among them."
