The Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Graduate School of Biosphere Science, Hiroshima University, Japan and the College of Agriculture, Visayas State University, Philippines, which will be signed by Dr. Esaka and Dr. Bacusmo, aims to promote mutual understanding between the two countries and between the two institutions through educational and academic collaboration and exchange, and to contribute to the advancement and progress of learning. The MOA provides a framework to operationalize activities related to joint research; exchange of faculty members; exchange of undergraduate and graduate students; and exchange of research outcomes, academic publications, and other academic information.

After the MOA signing, the group will be toured around the campus including the Philippine Carabao Center, University Accreditation Center, University Library, Graduate School, Administration Building, Food Science Processing Plant, National Abaca Research Center, Regional Coconut Research Center, PhilRootcrops, and the Protective Gardening Experimental Site of the Department of Horticulture.

It can be recalled that on February 25-26 this year, Dr. Maeda together with Dr. Liao visited VSU for initial exploratory trip. Dr. Maeda presented the different programs offered by HU's Graduate School of Biosphere Science and the existing partnerships with other universities during the Academic Council Meeting of the University on February 25. Likewise, they met students and faculty of the Departments of Animal Science, Agronomy and Soil Science, and Food Science and the Institute for Strategic Research and Development Studies. They also visited the Marine Laboratory, PhilRootcrops, and Philippine Carabao Center.

Impressed by VSU's academic and research performance, the group finally decided to concretize mutual understanding between the two institutions.
