VSU lauds EU’s Erasmus Mundus for boosting cultural exchange

The Sandigan Award was given to the programme “for its significant contribution to the efforts of VSU to develop its manpower resources and to expose its students to high quality education in the EU countries.” Sandigan is a Filipino word that means something robust to lean on.

Through the Erasmus Mundus programme, 40 VSU faculty, staff, and students had attended degree and non-degree trainings, and postdoctoral studies in top universities in Belgium, Czech Republic, Croatia, Germany, Spain, Sweden, and Portugal.

Manuel D. Gacutan Jr., an animal science instructor, said he earned the confidence to teach better after a two-year Masters study at the Swedish University of Agricultural Science and the University of Copenhagen from August 2012 to September 2014.

 VSU Soil Science professor Dr. Suzette P. Lina maintains research collaborations with Georg August University in Goettingen, Germany.

“[Georg August University] helped in providing new and improved laboratory equipment and glassware at VSU. These equipment have been used by students for soil analysis to date,” Lina said.  

The Erasmus Mundus programme has also provided opportunities to several staff and students from some European universities to visit or enroll at VSU.

VSU’s involvement as a member of the EXPERTS and AREAS Erasmus Mundus 2 University Consortia has made VSU more visible globally. It has also become EU’s partner in the Cine Europa, a yearly film festival showcasing award-winning films in Europe.
