Owing to their success in some major events, Team Region 8 jumped up to the 4th place from 12th last year. Team Region 8 is composed of athletes from ten state universities in Eastern Visayas who were hailed champions in the Regional SCUAA meet.

VSU Education student Cheryl Mae Gonzaga and teammates Noreen Bagcal and Rhenadel Rostata from Leyte Normal University (LNU) won gold in Taekwondo Poomsae Women.

After a five-day competition, VSU brought in seven bronze medals in tennis, badminton, swimming, and basketball.

VSU athletes Elma Dasia and Maria Theresa Tagalog, and teammates from Eastern Visayas State University and Northwest Samar State University landed third place in Tennis Women.

VSU’s Maria Regine Caparas and Marigold Retuya with teammates from LNU and Eastern Samar State University also earned the third prize in Badminton Women. Angelito Bocal, a VSU student, also won bronze in the Swimming Men Medley Relay.

The third place in the Basketball Men event went to Team Region 8 represented by VSU athletes Marvie Keir Chavez, and Faustino Sam Daclag.

SCUAA is an association of state universities and colleges and other institutions that organizes intercollegiate sporting events in the country.
