About the Program

The Bachelor of Science in Economics program is a 4-year degree course aimed at students who are abreast with current social and political issues of the modern world. Students learn the economic framework of analyzing various business, institutional and environmental decision-making processes which are essential to the evolving socioeconomic systems we currently face.

The Department of Economics started to offer the program in 2006 after learning of the demand coming from high school students in the region. While relatively young, the BSEcon program has produced several graduates earning honorific distinctions in VSU commencement exercises. Aside from this, BSEcon students regularly compete and win in regional and national research.

The VSU undergraduate economics program boasts a good mix of theoretical and practical classes aimed at equipping students with ample knowledge and relevant skills ready to face the world of work. The newly instituted curriculum pushes this goal further by allowing students to select a major in either Business Economics or Environmental & Development Economics to cater to students’ interests.
