The Faculty of Engineering (FE) of Visayas State University traces its roots to the establishment of the Department of Agricultural Engineering and Applied Mathematics (DAEAM) in 1975. Over the succeeding five decades, the unit evolved alongside the University’s expanding mandate in science, technology, and engineering education. It became the College of Engineering and Agri-Industries (CEAI) in 2001, the College of Engineering (COE) in 2009, and the College of Engineering and Technology (CET) in 2018. In line with VSU’s institutional transformation toward becoming a global green university, CET was subsequently reorganized as the Faculty of Engineering. In 2025, the Faculty celebrated its 50th anniversary under the theme “Celebrating 50 Years of Learning, Growth, and Impact: Gearing Towards Sustainable Innovations.” Today, the Faculty of Engineering is one of VSU’s leading academic units in engineering education, research, innovation, and community engagement. Its programs have produced graduates who have distinguished themselves in professional licensure examinations, industry, academe, government, and research. The Faculty has likewise strengthened its commitment to quality assurance and international standards, with its engineering curricula developed in accordance with the requirements associated with the Washington Accord. Recent achievements include outstanding performances in the Agricultural and Biosystems, Civil, Geodetic, and Mechanical Engineering licensure examinations and the attainment of Certificates of Program Compliance for all its programs. The Faculty’s development agenda emphasizes high-quality outcomes-based engineering education, interdisciplinary research and innovation, sustainable technologies, and solutions responsive to regional, national, and global challenges.

Research and Development Agenda

  1. Energy Park

    Research in the field of renewable energy and organic-based agri ventures have been central to the college’s agenda. Owing to the growing knowledge in this area, the college is establishing an Energy Park that showcases applications of renewable technologies for educational, training, and eco-tourism purposes.

  2. Skills Training Program

    The college offers a skills training program in shielded metal arc welding and electrical installation and maintenance. Trainees who have successfully accomplished the training will receive a National Certificate that qualifies them to work in companies here and abroad.

  3. Development of engineering- and technology-based educational materials for secondary and college students.
