VSU nearly doubles licensed #ProudViscans in the August 2025 Food Technologists board exam

Out of 40 VSU examinees, 29 passed, giving the university a 72.50% institutional passing rate, well above the 62.94% national average.
This is a significant jump from the August 2024 FTLE, where VSU registered only 15 passers out of 28 examinees for a 53.57% passing rate.
The 2024 outcome was already higher than the 47.06% rate achieved in 2023, when the Department of Food Science and Technology (DFST) was still building up its readiness for the new licensure program.
With this year’s 72.50% passing rate, VSU not only surpassed its own previous records but also outperformed the national average by nearly 10 percentage points.
VSU’s continuing success in the FTLE is made even more meaningful by its status as the first and only institution in Eastern Visayas accredited by PRC to offer a food technology program qualified for the licensure exam.
The university earned this recognition in September 2022, when PRC awarded VSU a Certificate of Compliance (COC) after a rigorous inspection of its curriculum, faculty profile, and facilities.
This year’s exam was conducted in several testing centers across the country, including NCR, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Legazpi, Lucena, Pagadian, and Rosales.
Among individual performers, Nathan Gordon Orencia of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) emerged as Top 1 with a score of 88%. Meanwhile, UP Diliman was named the top performing school, recording 100% passing rate, meeting PRC’s requirement of at least 25 examinees and an 80% passing percentage.

What you have achieved is also the department's achievement. Congratulations to our new professional food technologists!”
