Commissioner Dr. Myrna Q. Mallari, former President of Tarlac State University (TSU) and past head of the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), has been designated as the new Chairperson of the Visayas State University (VSU) Governing Board. She succeeds Dr. Ethel Agnes P. Valenzuela, whose term as Commissioner has concluded.
A Certified Public Accountant by profession, Dr. Mallari brings with her more than 40 years of experience in higher education management, accreditation, and academic leadership.
She completed her Doctor of Business Administration from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Master of Public Administration from Tarlac State University, and Bachelor of Business Administration major in Accounting, graduating cum laude from the University of the East.
Before joining CHED, Dr. Mallari served as the fifth President of TSU from 2014 to 2022, during which the university earned full accreditation for all its programs and received national recognition through the Philippine Quality Award.
She also served as President and Chairperson of AACCUP in 2017-2018 and 2020-2022, helping raise the standards of public higher education institutions across the country.
VSU President Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes expressed her appreciation for Dr. Mallari’s appointment, and conveyed optimism about the new direction the university will pursue under her leadership.
“We warmly welcome our new VSU Governing Board Chairperson, Dr. Myrna Q. Mallari. Her extensive experience in higher education and accreditation brings a fresh and informed perspective that will greatly benefit the university. I also extend my deepest thanks to our former BOR Chairperson, Dr. Ethel Agnes P. Valenzuela, for her support and partnership with VSU,” Dr. Yepes said.
Dr. Mallari’s leadership in the Governing Board marks a new chapter for VSU as it continues to advance its role as a global green university, expand its academic programs, strengthen its research agenda, and promote sustainable and inclusive development in the Visayas and beyond.
