The Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the Visayas State University (VSU) started when it was offered as a Ladderized Program on June 2007. On December 2007, the Department of Nursing Skills Laboratory and Lecture rooms were inaugurated.

To gain full recognition of the ladderized program, TESDA has accredited and recognized the two Vocational Programs (TechVoc), namely: Nursing Assistant and Caregiver. Thus, the student could have Certificate of Nursing Assistant and after two years of the taking the program upon passing TESDA examination.

On October 29, 2009, the VSU Board of Regents approved the creation of the College of Nursing. Facilities are continuously being transferred to support the changing needs of a college that aims to provide education excellence. Partnerships with clinical agencies, community organizations, Government and non-government organizations are being forged to provide outstanding generalist Nursing Educations.

Jackfruit: the Proud Crop of Region 8, Philippines

The Department of Agriculture Field Unit No. 8 (DA-RFU-8) chose jackfruit in 1996 as its banner crop under the High Value Commercial Crop (HVCC) program. Under the Jackfruit Research and Development Program, the varietal collection and selection started. This resulted to the establishment of the Jackfruit Germplasm Collection. Selected varieties were mass produced and introduced to interested farmers under the Plant Now Pay Later (PNPL) Program. Five to six years later, the jackfruit plants under the PNPL program have started fruiting.

We may go roaming far and wide
Throughout the breadth of land
But still we'll hold and esteem with pride
Our lovely school by the murmuring strait
Beloved alma mater, mem'ries of you shall remain...
