Nearly 400 Sanguniang Kabataan (SK) officials from Baybay City strengthened their leadership perspective during a two-day training on value-based leadership facilitated by the Visayas State University-Guidance and Counseling Office (VSU-GCO) on August 24-25, 2025 at the Binaybayon Convention Center, Brgy. Hibunawan.
Held as part of the SK Congress 2025 in celebration of Linggo ng mga Kabataan, the training focused on Filipino family values and their influence on leadership and decision-making.
Participants explored evolving family dynamics, reflected on social issues affecting their communities, and developed actionable plans for value-driven activities in their respective barangays.
Resource persons Kent Jan A. Beldia, RGC, and Ms. Mary Ann C. Cobico, RGC, RPsy, led the sessions, with facilitation from Ms. Chona A. Brit, RGC, Ms. Rupha Gin T. Fernandez, RGC, Mr. Ariel S. Medalla, RPm, and Ms. Christie Cyrene C. Tauy.
“We are grateful to the LGU Baybay for inviting VSU to be part of this program. It is encouraging to see young leaders engage seriously with values and apply them to their roles in the community,” Beldia said.
The training also encouraged SK officials to design programs addressing social issues while integrating Filipino family values, giving them a practical framework to lead initiatives in their communities.
Divided into two groups per day, the sessions combined interactive discussions, lectures, and planning exercises, concluding with goal-setting activities.
The program was made possible through the invitation of Hon. Kyla Shann T. Vidal, SK Federation President of Baybay City, to support youth leaders with how they guide their peers thoughtfully and responsibly.
Through this engagement, VSU continues to extend its expertise in guidance and counseling, and shape the next generation of leaders equipped to translate values into action.
