CHED_recognizes_VSU_as_delivering_university_for_national_scholarship_program

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has formally recognized Visayas State University (VSU) as a Delivering Higher Education Institution (DHEI) under the Scholarships for Staff and Instructors’ Knowledge Advancement Program (SIKAP). This designation enables the university to host and manage government-funded scholars beginning academic year 2025-2026

The recognition was formalized through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed by CHED Regional Director Dr. Maximo C. Aljibe and VSU President Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes.

The agreement authorizes  VSU to admit and administer scholarships for faculty and staff pursuing full-time and part-time advanced studies.

Under the program, VSU will establish a Scholarship Management Office (SMO) to manage the enrollment of scholars, processing of tuition and other fees, monitoring of academic progress, and coordination with CHED on compliance and reporting.

The SMO will be staffed with a Scholarship Administrator and technical personnel who will provide guidance and support to scholars throughout their studies.

The recognition of VSU as a DHEI carries significant benefits for the university, its faculty and staff, and the wider region.

Faculty and staff will have access to graduate-level programs and enable them to complete advanced studies while receiving financial support. The program allows scholars to focus on their academic goals, pursue research, and integrate new knowledge and practices into their teaching.

This initiative is expected to improve faculty qualifications, expand research outputs, and elevate the overall quality of education in VSU. Research and advanced learning of scholars will contribute to regional development and innovation, while students stand to benefit from more qualified educators and modernized teaching strategies.

For CHED, the SIKAP program ensures that scholarship administration is properly managed, scholar progress is monitored, and financial assistance is released promptly.

Scholars will receive support for tuition, program-related fees, and other academic requirements to allow them to pursue their studies without additional financial burden.

VSU now joins a select group of higher education institutions authorized by CHED to deliver government-funded scholarships and expanding opportunities for educators.
