Team Philippines, represented by VSU food technology graduate students, was recognized as the team with the Best Output Presentation, during the last day of the week-long Japan Food Industry Tour, September 9.

Students Maria Norfrelij Cuadra, Brayan Bornias, Melogen Gold Bandalan, and Ria Jayne Tabinas, presented the food value chain in the Philippines to other ASEAN country representatives. Their advisers are Dr. Lorina Galvez, a VSU food technology assistant professor, and Maria Helen Seco of the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI). Joining them in the tour are students and faculty members of top universities in Brunei, Myanmar, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

In a facebook post, Seco said Team Philippines was proclaimed the best among other countries who participated in the food factory tour in Osaka, Kyoto, and Tokyo. Seco said she was grateful to God, ATI, and for the support of Dr. Vilma Patindol, Director of ATI-Regional Training Center VIII.

VSU was recommended by ATI Executive Director Asterio P. Saliot to represent the Philippines.

Team Philippines will fly back to the Philippines on September 10. They are expected to implement projects and share the lessons they have gained from the tour to students and researchers in the country.

The tour was initiated by the Kasetsart University in Thailand, the Department of Agricultural Extension, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, and implemented by the ASEAN Food Industries Human Resources Development Association. It aims to improve and develop the food value chain in countries in the ASEAN.
