VSU-Isabel-caps-HRISCumulusOne-training-gears-up-for-streamlined-processes_

To streamline data management and to promote smarter and more optimized processes within the university, Visayas State University (VSU) Isabel held a four-day training on Human Resource Information System (HRIS) and CumulusOne last March 23 to 26.

In collaboration with the Management Information System (MIS) unit of the University Information and Communications Technology (UICTS), the training was conducted by MIS Head, Mr. Norman O. Villas, and was attended by faculty members and staff.

VSUI Chancellor Dr. Catherine L. Chan, in her opening remarks, emphasized the significance of the initiative as part of the university’s ongoing efforts toward innovation, efficiency, and excellence in service.

“These platforms are not merely tools—they are catalysts for transparency, accountability, and streamlined operations,” Dr. Chan said, stressing that the adoption of HRIS and CumulusOne reflects the commitment of the university to modernize organizational processes, strengthen data-driven decision-making, and enhance service delivery to stakeholders.

The training underscored key HRIS modules such as Personal Data Sheet (PDS), plantilla, service records, recruitment, and job application processes.

Participants were also introduced to eDATS, with step-by-step walk-throughs and hands-on data entry exercises designed to improve accuracy and efficiency in handling institutional data.

Meanwhile, sessions on CumulusOne focused on its role as the student records management system of the university. Developed to address increasing enrollment demands, the platform enables online enrollment, electronic grade submission, and improved access to academic records.

Additional modules, including department management, student advising, and cashiering functions, were also presented.

“Participants, particularly the faculty members, showed a commendable willingness to step out of their comfort zones and embrace the demands of continuous improvement,” Dr. Marjonnel Abella-Chan, VSUI Academic Affairs director, said, noting that initial apprehensions were gradually replaced by openness and commitment to learning.

Mrs. Angie Hermoso, head of the Registrar’s Office, expressed her gratitude to the MIS team for the deployment of CumulusOne.

She related that when she assumed office in 2016, most processes were still manual, and that in 2018, she had already requested the main campus to deploy Cumulus in VSU Isabel.

“I now realize that the timing was not yet appropriate. Instead, the VSU Main Campus first implemented the Student Records Management System (SRMS), which served as a foundation for the eventual rollout of CumulusOne,” she said.

Mrs. Shary Gonzaga also expressed her appreciation for the training and underlined its impact among participants.

“More than just learning new systems, it felt like we were growing together as one,” she said.

The training forms part of continuing efforts of VSU Isabel to strengthen digital competencies and enhance institutional efficiency through the integration of innovative systems and technologies.

HRIS will be gradually implemented starting April, and CumulusOne will be pilot tested in June this year.
