Visayas State University (VSU) President Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes served as one of the panelists during the 39th Annual National Conference and General Assembly of the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) at the Century Park Hotel, Manila on March 24–26, 2026.
Taking part in the panel discussion on “Advancing Quality Assurance in Research, Science, and Technology for Transformative Education and Sustainable Development,” Dr. Yepes presented how VSU approaches quality assurance in research within the context of national and regional development directions .
In her presentation, she discussed how the university aligns its research initiatives with broader frameworks such as the Philippine Development Plan, the Sustainable Development Goals, and regional priorities in Eastern Visayas. She also outlined the systems in place that guide research work across the institution.
“We have put in place quality assurance mechanisms that cover the entire research cycle so that our faculty are supported from proposal stage all the way to publication,” Dr. Yepes said.
She further explained that these mechanisms include ethics review processes, peer evaluation of research proposals, project monitoring, validation of outputs, and dissemination of findings, forming a structure that keeps research work consistent and accountable.
The panel gathered leaders from selected state universities and colleges across Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao, and BARMM, providing a venue to present institutional practices and compare approaches to quality assurance in research and innovation.

Alongside the university’s participation at the leadership level, faculty members from the VSU Main Campus, as well as from VSU Tolosa and VSU Alangalang, attended the three-day conference. Their presence formed part of the university’s continued involvement in national conversations on accreditation and quality assurance in higher education.
The conference carried the theme “Advancing Quality Assurance: Research, Science, and Technology for Transformative Education and Sustainable Development,” bringing together SUC officials, QA practitioners, and policymakers to discuss current directions and challenges in higher education.
Meanwhile, during the General Assembly, Dr. Suzette B. Lina, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Science (FAFS), was re-elected as a member of the AACCUP Board of Trustees. Her re-election places VSU among the institutions represented in shaping policies and directions on accreditation at the national level.
