The Visayas State University, through the Office of the Vice President for Research and Extension (OVPRE), conducted the 5th VSU RDE Management Forum and Tripartite Budget Dialogue on January 17-18, 2013 at the PhilRootcrops Training Hall. The activity was participated in by some research coordinators and in-charge of RDE budget monitoring and evaluation from the different colleges and research centers of VSU System.

Some varsity athletes of the Visayas State University (VSU) who joined in the State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) National Olympics 2013 held on February 17-24 at the Jose Rizal Memorial State College Sports Complex in Dapitan City garnered medals in their respective events.

The VSU's Quest for the Seal of Excellence under the Program to Institutionalize Meritocracy and Excellence in Human Resource Management (PRIME-HRM) of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) was launched during the closing program of the "EHEM! Anti Corruption Sensitivity Workshop" on February 8, 2013 at the VSU's Center for Continuing Education.

Dr. Angel C. Alcala, former chairman of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), erstwhile Secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and now Professor Emeritus of Silliman University, served as guest speaker during the 2013 VSU Honors and Awards Convocation in the afternoon of March 5 at the VSU Gymnatorium.
