To conserve different species from extinction, VSU sent two Visayan flora and biodiversity experts to participate in the second national workshop on updating the Philippine key biodiversity areas (KBAs) or identified marine and terrestrial sites where organisms inhabit.

Visayas State University (VSU) participated in the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC), a global project that aims to address ocean pollution via coordinated cleanups of beaches and waterways, for the second year in a row, together with the faculty, staff, and a variety of student organizations.

VSU’s fisheries and fish ecology expert from the Department of Biological Sciences (DBS) is a recipient of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Balik Scientist Program (BSP) award, a prestigious grant given to Filipino scientists to encourage them to serve in our country.

The Department of Agriculture - Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) officially turned over a 38-footer Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRB) boat to VSU Tolosa to strengthen its fisheries program, particularly in the field of capture fisheries.

Assistant Professor Rafael Junnar P. Dumalan from the Department of Biological Sciences (DBS) graduated from his 10 months of educational training in marine science and oceanography at Germany’s leading polar and marine research institution.
