PhilRootcrops trains DA focal persons on cassava processing
Thirty focal persons from the 16 Regional Field Units (RFUs) of the Department of Agriculture (DA) attended the two-batch trainings on Cassava Processing and Utilization held at the PhilRootcrops Training Hall of the Visayas State University (VSU) in Baybay City, Leyte. The first batch was held last December 6-8, 2011 with 21 participants from 16 regions, while the second batch was held on January 10-12, 2012 attended by 7 focal persons from Regions V, VI, VII and VIII.

Godoy, a 1999 BS in Agriculture major in Agronomy graduate of the then ViSCA, now VSU, and a resident of Barangay Can-ipa, Baybay City, Leyte, was awarded the 2011 Most Outstanding Farmer of Baybay City. The award was given during the Opening Program of the Baybay City Agri-Fair on December 16, 2011 held at the Activity Center of Prince-Baybay. As winner, he received a cash prize of P10,000 and a certificate of recognition.

After the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement on the "Integrated and Diversified Program for the Development of the Ormoc-Kananga (OK) Upland Range" between the Visayas State University, the Energy Development Corporation-Leyte Geothermal Production Fields (EDC-LGPF), Partners Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMPC), National Agribusiness Corporation (NABCOR), and the Department of Agriculture (DA) on December 12, 2011 at the Patio Victoria, San Jose, Tacloban City, the implementation of the Phase 1 of the project valued at 92 million pesos is now in full-throttle for the next five years.
