About the Program
The BS Information Technology program includes the study of the utilization of both hardware and software technologies involving planning, installing, customizing, operating, managing and administering, and maintaining information technology infrastructure that provides computing solutions to address the needs of an organization.
The program prepares graduates to address various user needs involving the selection, development, application, integration and management of computing technologies within an organization.
The BSIT degree program of Visayas State University - Isabel was first implemented in the school year 2003-2004 by Board Resolution no. 107, S. 2002, with the guidance of CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 53 series of 2006. From 2007 until June 2021, VSU-Isabel has produced 400+ graduates. The program adopted the CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 25, Series of 2015, to comply with the K-12 curriculum.
Program highlights
- GRADUATES - Since the start of the BSIT program in 2002, the department has produced over 400 + graduates. The majority have landed jobs even a month after graduation, which are skillful and competent professionals in Information Technology and computing both in the academe and the industry.
- INSTRUCTION – Currently, the department consists of 6 instructors (5 regular and one part-time) with expertise in various fields of Information Technology such as Software engineering (desktop apps, web apps, and mobile apps), Database Systems, Servicing (System deployment, support, repair, and maintenance), Robotics, Multimedia production and development, and Networks.
- EXTENSION – Throughout the years, the department has rendered many clients educating and extending expert services in local communities through IT education and application in training workshops for office applications, web systems design and implementation, Multimedia, Basic Programming, and Business applications. Selected faculty also extend their services through speakerships related to their IT specializations in various schools and organizations.
- STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS AND ACTIVITIES – The Information Technology Club (IT Club) s a very active student organization with members that are BSIT and ACT students of the department. IT Club organizes programs like; programming tutorials and computing-related competitions. Also, extend to the community through various help drives like feeding programs, back-to-school donation campaigns, and school beautification. The organization also indulges in income-generating projects such as computer servicing, document printing, graphic design, and technical support, serving clientele throughout the university while helping BSIT and ACT students in need to have part-time jobs.

- Responsible for maintaining the overall information security and compliance across the organization.
- Performs information security risk assessments & IT control audits
- Responsible for developing and maintaining various policies and procedures and other documentation related to risk management, IT controls, information security and compliance.
- Responsible for providing structured information security risk and compliance reporting to senior/executive leadership team, and company-wide levels as applicable.
- Also responsible for maintaining the end-to-end training & development program. Heavily involved with the hiring selection process, assessing and interviewing applicants that can be a good fit for the role, providing assistance from onboarding, process training until deployment to the production.

EMERALD EVEN A. ABRAHAN (Class of 2011)
A former IT Club Officer, he is an Information Security Analyst at Optum Global Solutions. He is responsible for assessing information risk and facilitates remediation of identified vulnerabilities for IT security and IT risk across the enterprise. Also, assesses information risk and facilitates remediation of identified vulnerabilities with the systems and applications.
