BS Statistics student leads this year’s batch of graduates
Venus P. Gloria, Bachelor of Science in Statistics, topped in the list of graduates with latin honors during the 59th VSU Commencement Exercises held in the morning of April 11, 2012 at the VSU Gymnatorium. As a Magna Cum Laude graduate, Venus received the VSU Presidential Award of Academic Excellence with a cash award of P15,000 for graduating with the highest academic performance. She also received medals as recipient of the Senator Juan Ponce Enrile Award of Excellence, Loren B. Legarda Academic Excellence Award, Senator Loren B. Legarda Leadership Award, and Senator Aquilino Pimentel III Academic Excellence Award.

The Governor of the Province of Leyte, Hon. Carlos Jericho L. Petilla, in his message as guest speaker during the 59th VSU Collegiate Commencement Exercises on April 11, 2012 at the VSU Gymnatorium, expressed his confidence in VSU's capability in producing good leaders among its graduates. The vibrant Governor said that "We need leaders and that's what makes you different from the rest of the graduates in this region because the school has taught you to become future leaders." He emphasized that VSU is a breeding ground for good leaders.

Some 100 members of the Geodetic Engineers of the Philippines (GEP) convened on March 30-31, 2012 at the VSU's Center for Continuing Education during its 37th GEP Regional Convention.
The convention centered on the theme "Role of Geodetic Engineers in Disaster Risk Reduction Management." The occasion gave an opportunity for the GEs to have an exchange of ideas on current issues and concerns affecting engineers.

Dr. Rotacio Gravoso, Professor of the Department of Development Communication (DDC), has been in Australia from February 14 t0 March 21, 2012 as a recipient of the John Dillon Memorial Fellowship on Research Management. Sponsored by the Australian Center for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), the fellowship afforded Dr. Gravoso and other ten fellows from the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Papua New Guinea the opportunity to participate in workshops on communicating science at Melbourne; leadership development at Melbourne Business School, the top education provider in Australia; and research management at the ACIAR Headquarters in Canberra.

Bacusmo, signed on March 27, 2012 a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Provincial Agrarian Reform Officers (PAROs) Oscar Reloj and Elisea Orapa of DAR-Leyte and DAR-Biliran, respectively, at the VSU Grounds in Baybay City, Leyte.
