The VSU administration through the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and Services (OVPSAS) led by Dr. Aleli A. Villocino establishes a solid waste management agreement with the University Inter-Dormitory Student Body (UISB) on April 1, 2025.

The UISB as the official organization representing dormitory residents, acknowledges the vital role of students in maintaining cleanliness and an orderly environment through proper waste management practices.

This supplementary pact supports the Waste Management Program established by the university through the OVPAF (Office of the Vice President for Administration and Finance). This document received signatures from each dormitory adviser as well as UISB advisers, University President, Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes and VPs Dr. Aleli A. Villocino (VP for OVPSAS) along with Dr. Moises Neil V. Seriño (VP for OVPAF).

The implementation of the Waste Management Program involves waste code development to maintain proper waste separation between residuals such as plastic, styro, sanitary pads, packaging, others and paper waste papers, cartoons, cardboards and also bottles, cans, clothes, recyclable materials, food waste, wood, leaves and kitchen waste.

The Waste Management Program extends its reach across university offices and departments together with dormitories as well as housing residents, commercial markets, fast-food, and pavilion. The 101st anniversary flower and garden show along with the food bazaar has been directed to also implement their waste management approach.

These waste materials are collected in the morning starting from 8 AM from Mondays to Saturdays based on a waste code packing and schedule: residuals in a trash bag are collected on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays while papers inside a box or paper bags are collected every Tuesday, PET (polyethylene terephthalate), cans, bottles, clothes and recyclable materials inside a clear trash bag or plastic bags are collected every Thursday and biodegradables inside paper boxes, cartoon boxes or bins are collected every Saturday.

Meanwhile, residuals and biodegradables for commercial establishments are collected daily at 10 AM, while paper waste and PET waste code are collected at 8 AM on Tuesdays and Thursdays, respectively.

VSU residual waste transmittal to Baybay City General Services

The Waste Management Program emerged from the partnership between VSU and Baybay City’s General Services.

On March 31, 2025, the first transmittal of VSU residuals to the Baybay City General Services was scheduled. The residuals collected were bound for the sanitary landfill of Baybay City.

By implementing this initiative, the university establishes its dedication to building a green campus ecosystem alongside developing a disciplinary culture in the VSU community.
