Dr. Dennis P. Peque, a professor and former dean of the VSU College of Forestry and Environmental Science (CFES), is hailed as an Outstanding Professional Forester for Region VIII by the Society of Filipino Foresters, Inc. (SFFI).

Aside from being called a “Very Scenic University,” VSU enhanced its landscapes not only to beautify the campus but also to practice sustainability by growing drought-tolerant ornamental plants. 

To conserve different species from extinction, VSU sent two Visayan flora and biodiversity experts to participate in the second national workshop on updating the Philippine key biodiversity areas (KBAs) or identified marine and terrestrial sites where organisms inhabit.
