ITEEM About the program

About the Program

Article II Section 16 of the Philippine Constitution provides that “The State shall protect and advance the right of the people to a balanced and healthful ecology in accord with the rhythm and harmony of nature.” It is within the context of this constitutional mandate that Visayas State University (VSU) is offering the Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science (BSES) program. In addition, the offering of the program in VSU is also anchored on the commitment of the Philippine government to the UN Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 and the priority agenda for action in the Philippine Agenda 21 (A National Agenda for Sustainable Development) which stipulates the integration of environment and sustainable development in the various curricula.

The Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science (BSES), being a multidisciplinary field, is allied to a number of fields in the biological sciences, earth sciences, physical and social sciences. It also relates with mathematics, particularly in modeling and statistics. It is also allied to many fields particularly in agriculture, fisheries, forestry, energy and resource management, information systems, environmental design and planning, and environmental engineering and sanitation.
