About the Program

The Bachelor of Science in Geodetic Engineering (BSGE) in the Visayas State University (VSU) is among the updated and leading geodetic engineering education in the country. BSGE is a four-year program offered by the Department of Geodetic Engineering of the College of Engineering and Technology. Geodetic Engineering deals with the collection and measurement of spatial data above, on, or below the surface of the earth using appropriate technologies, scientific methods, methodological processing, as well as the management of spatial data necessary for the production information such as maps, plans, charts, and other documents. It employs techniques in surveying, geodesy, location and navigation systems, mobile mapping, geographic information systems, including remote sensing to observe and measure the physical environment using satellite and unmanned aerial vehicles. Also, the BSGE program in VSU involves engineering, hydrographic, and land surveys to determine the metes and bounds of property necessary for land registration proceedings and other purposes.

The BSGE curriculum is designed to align with the principles of Outcomes-Based Education, the K-12 Education Program, and the New General Education Curriculum. It specifies the core competencies and skills expected from a BSGE graduate upon graduation and emphasize the life-long learning opportunities of becoming a globally competitive practicing engineer. It specifically aimed that after seven years from graduation, BSGE graduate shall:

  • Provide leadership in planning, implementing, and monitoring geodetic engineering projects and programs;
  • Occupy supervisory positions in private and public organizations; locally and internationally;
  • Own and manage geodetic engineering-based business enterprises;
  • Pursue advance studies in geodetic engineering and emerging related fields; OR
  • Occupy responsible positions Occupy responsible positions in geodetic engineering education
