The Visayas State University (VSU) marked a major stride in advancing its research and innovation efforts with the opening of the 2025 In-house Research, Extension, and Innovation (REI) Review, held on June 30, 2025.
Coinciding with this event was the launch of the VSU R&D Nexus, a dedicated digital platform to improve the visibility, accessibility, and documentation of the research, development, extension, and innovation outputs of the university.
The activity brought together faculty researchers, extension coordinators, innovation advocates, program leaders, and evaluators from across the university system.
This gathering served as a venue to assess the progress and outcomes of current projects and offer feedback for improving future work across the research and extension programs of VSU.
On the other hand, the VSU R&D Nexus is a new platform developed by the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovation. Designed to work alongside VSU’s main website, this strengthens the online presence of the university in the field of research and extension.
The website currently features News Articles, Research Centers, Calls and Conferences, REI Forms and Templates, Publication Outputs, and links to VSU Journals.
“While this marks a milestone moment in one of our KPIs, at the core of this initiative is our goal to make our R&D outputs more accessible and readily available to our stakeholders to make sure that the value we create is shared widely and used effectively” said Dr. Santiago T. Peña, VP for Research, Extension and Innovation.
More digital tools are in development, and future versions of the platform are expected to include analytics and user dashboards for project leads and coordinators.
VSU President Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes emphasized that the new system will help the university stay relevant and responsive to its stakeholders.
“This review and this platform offer us a chance to look closely at what we’re doing, what works, and what we can improve,” she said in her remarks and emphasized that these efforts will align with the broader national goals and global directions.
President Yepes acknowledged the initiative as aligned with one of the seven-point agenda of CHED Chairperson Dr. Shirley C. AGrupis, particularly the call for an Integrated Data System across higher education institutions.
Through the REI in-house review and the VSU R&D NExus, VSU is advancing practical systems that expand access to knowledge and support more coherent academic strategies in research, extension, and innovation.
