Visayas State University (VSU) has opened its gates to new and continuing students for academic year 2025-2026 starting August 11, with a special initiative designed to make the transition into campus life easier.Â
The Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and Services (OVPSAS), together with the University Supreme Student Council (USSC), launched “Tambayayong sa Salubong”, a week-long assistance program where student leaders personally greet and guide incoming students.Â
Â
Running from August 8 to 12, the initiative places student leaders at the upper and lower Main Gates, as well as the Upper and Lower Market Gate. They help students find their dormitories, answer questions, and give directions to various offices and facilities.Â
For many first-year Viscans, this direct support has eased what could have been an overwhelming first day on campus. Parents of a freshman student have expressed relief knowing that their children are immediately met by fellow students willing to assist them.Â
“Tambayayong sa Salubong” sets the tone for an academic year rooted in hospitality and mutual care. This reinforces the idea that while VSU is a hub for learning, it is also a community that looks after its own.Â
