VSU-remains-first-in-EV19th-in-PH-in-2026-EduRank

Visayas State University remains one of the Philippines’ leading higher education institutions after ranking first in Eastern Visayas and earning the 19th spot among the top 100 universities in the Philippines, according to international rankings platform, EduRank, as of March 15, 2026.

While the 2026 ranking shows a shift from last year’s 12th spot, VSU remains the undisputed top university in the region and stays firmly within the top 20 among 229 institutions in the country.

In Eastern Visayas, only four universities made it to the country’s Top 100: Samar State University at 57th place, Leyte Normal University at 74th, and University of Eastern Philippines at 85th.

Despite the shift in national rankings, VSU continues to shine on the global stage.

In Asia, the university ranks 2,089th out of the 5,830 institutions. Globally, the university places 5,696th among 14,131 universities.

These rankings show that VSU is part of a much larger academic landscape, competing alongside institutions globally while continuing to strengthen its position.

VSU President Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes commended the university’s performance, noting that these rankings reflect a growing national and international recognition for VSU.

"We see this ranking as a reminder that while VSU continues to do well in agriculture and related fields, there is still work to be done in broadening our research across other areas. What matters to us is that our work remains relevant to the communities we serve, and that our graduates are prepared for the realities beyond the university," said Dr. Yepes.

VSU's performance in the EduRank 2026 Edition

One of VSU’s defining strengths is its strong performance across many academic fields, excelling not only in science and technology but also in the liberal arts, social sciences, and allied fields.

It ranks 9th nationally in both Biology and Environmental Science. In the field of Medicine and Physics, VSU holds the 10th spot, followed closely by Chemistry and Engineering at the 11th place.

The university also performs well in the social sciences and other programs, securing the 12th spot in Economics, Psychology, and Business, 15th in Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, 17th in Mathematics, and 24th in Computer Science.

As a research institution, the university recorded 1,303 publications and 13,021 citations, evidence of its widening scholarly impact.

Among the widely recognized areas of disciplines include agriculture, environmental science, engineering, health science, and social sciences.

VSU also keeps education accessible, with around 82% acceptance rate for its admissions. This data proves opportunities for many students to enter VSU while maintaining quality education.

This output continues to boost VSU’s rankings, as EduRank measures performance through research output (45%), non-academic prominence (45%), and alumni impact (10%).

While rankings change, VSU’s 2026 performance offers #ProudViscans every reason to celebrate the enduring strength and role of our global green university in advancing knowledge and education in the homefront and the world.
