#GoingGlobal: VSU FOC connects with the University of Danang, Vietnam for immersion program

VSU computer science and information technology faculty and students now have the chance to participate in international collaborations and joint research opportunities.

To strengthen its international ties in the field of computer science and information technology, VSU recently conferred with Software Development Centre (SDC) of the University of Danang, Vietnam in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the VSU Faculty of Computing and Software Development Centre (SDC) of the University of Danang, Vietnam on October 6, 2026 at the VSU RDE Breakout Room.

SDC is rooted in the pursuit of in-depth computing education, particularly on the application of information technology, digital transformation and economic development.

The visit of the Vietnamese delegates, Dr. Nguyen Ha Huy Cuong and Bảo Duy, marks the beginning of a partnership that responds to developments in computing education.

Strengthening partnership between these two institutions will create openings for students and faculty members to engage with each respective culture, approach technical studies, develop teaching techniques, and conduct research under the instruction of the participating institutes.

Several key components were discussed during this event, ensuring all recipients were briefed on the inclusions of the memoranda. Dr. Magdalene C. Unajan, Department Head of the Department of Computer Science and Technology (DCST), presented an overview and framework for the upcoming collaboration and the internalization of this partnership. This sets the expectations of participating parties in terms of exchanges and projects during the duration of the opportunity.

The event also highlighted different research presentations from participating VSU DCST faculty and faculty from the VSU Alangalang Department of Information Technology, offering insights on potential areas to be considered.

A proposed immersion studies program served as the center of the agreement.

Students will be assigned a two-week immersion starting from the second semester of Academic Year 2026-2027. Under the guidance of mentors in software development practices like information database and systems analysis design, and web and application development, students will be immersed in the international academic and professional setting of Vietnam. Students will be trained to engage in activities that expose them to various competencies and problem-solving scenarios.

For faculty members, research and professional opportunities will be explored during the one-week Faculty Immersion Program from December 14-20, 2026. During this time, the faculty can strengthen their capabilities in various sessions, and academic explorations as they navigate through their institutional and industry visits.

True to the Viscan pursuit of knowledge, this immersion activity aims to prepare participants for scientific manuscripts, and produce publications and project developments through partnership with the international institution. This program also allows for participants from the SDC to establish joint studies with VSU, developing research in the field of computer science and information technology.

Through international collegiate exchanges and institutional activities, the Faculty of Computing seeks to broaden opportunities, giving students and faculty members the option to pursue higher education or subjects of interest on the international stage. This engagement further allows for the international network and industry professionals to stay connected and thrive, producing academic contributions for the computing and information systems community.

University President, Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes, resonates with this partnership, acknowledging that VSU is at the forefront of computer science studies development.

“When our students learn alongside people from another country, they begin to see how far their knowledge can take them and how much more there is to learn. Through this partnership with the University of Danang, we hope our FOC faculty members and students will bring home not only new technical skills, but also new ways of thinking, researching, and solving problems that matter to our communities,” she said in a statement.

This partnership and upcoming implementation of immersion programs is geared towards linkaging with the University of Danang, marking another step towards building global relations with higher education institutions who share the same aspirations of giving quality computing education within and beyond borders.
