This year’s VSU Grand Alumni Homecoming hosted by Batches ’90 and ’91 with Ms. Jill Lacandazo-Magsambol and Ms. Patricia Pala-Santiago as batches representatives, respectively, successfully gathered 309 VAC/ViSCA/LSU/VSU alumni on May 15-17, 2015.  On the tagline “Panaghiusa, Pagbuligay, Pagbangon, Pagsadya” (UNICORN: Unity, Cooperation, Recovery, Celebration), the annual festivity commenced on May 15 with a thanksgiving mass at the VSU Convention Hall with Rev. Fr. Brian Flandez as the celebrant.  Part of the thanksgiving mass was the blessing of the VSU Convention Hall after the flooring was tiled.

The alumni proceeded to the VSU Hostel for the inauguration and blessing of the newly constructed function hall at the right side of the Hostel that can accommodate reservations for special occasions, meetings and other events with more or less 100 participants.  After the blessing, Dr. Jose L. Bacusmo, VSU President, acknowledged the people behind the construction of the said extension facility.  He also laid-out some of his plans to maximize the use of the Hostel during the SCUAA 2015 in October in which VSU is the host institution.

Moreover, Dr. Roberto C. Guarte, VP for Administration and Finance, explained how the units under his office joined hands together in the completion of the said extension facility.  He also extended his gratitude to those who worked hard to fast track the said construction.

During the welcome dinner and program, the night kicked off with welcome remarks from the VSU President, assuring the alumni that their Alma Mater is in good hands under his administration and with the past administrators.  In fact, he enumerated some of the campus developments.

On the other hand, Dr. Edgardo E. Tulin, VP for Instruction and President of the VSU Alumni Association, Inc., gave some updates of the VSUAAI.  The host batches were also recognized as they were introduced by Asst. Prof. Elsie E. Salamat, OIC- Head of the Alumni and Community Relations Office, as their representatives were given plaque of appreciation each by Dr. Bacusmo with the assistance of Dr. Tulin.

To rekindle the hearts of the alumni, a video presentation to reminisce the previous alumni homecoming celebrations was also shown.  After which, alumni testimonials and trivia questions surprised the attendees as they were asked how they would show “I Love VSU”.

The celebration continued the following day with an early morning “Zumba” and unity run/walk at the Lower Campus by the alumni.  Some parlor games also spiced up the celebration before the fellowship lunch at the VSU Garden Beach Resort.  Other activities conducted include business meeting, alumni treats and canvassing of the VSU Alumni King and Queen 2015.

During the Alumni Night wherein all the alumni wore their rustic prom attire, the proclamation of winners of the Search for the VSU Alumni King and Queen 2015 advocating on “Greening the environment by planting more trees” was done.  The winners are as follows:  Mr. Julius Ogdoc and Ms. Corazon L. Alvarez, 2nd Runners Up; Mr. Patrick Cano and Ms. Loraine A. Salabao, 1st Runners Up; and  Mr. Eliseo Sinon and Ms. Sarah C. Muñez, VSU Alumni King and Queen 2015, respectively.

The night wound up with merriment as the alumni enjoyed dancing and fellowshipping with their respective batchmates.  JFMBaldos
