Just right after the #VSU101 Founding Anniversary celebration, VSU has even more reason to celebrate.

The VSU Department of Civil Engineering (DCE) has added 34 new names to the roster of licensed civil engineers, following the release of the April 2025 Civil Engineers Licensure Examination (CELE) by the Philippine Regulation Commission (PRC).

Out of 52 board exam takers, VSU achieved an impressive overall institutional passing rate of 65.38%, a notable increase compared to 51.61% recorded in the 2024 November and December CELE.

A total of 52 graduates took the national board examination that resulted in a 65.38% passing rate for VSU, an encouraging climb from the 51.61% recorded in the November-December 2024 examination.

What made this year’s performance even more noteworthy was the showing of first-time takers, who passed at a passing rate of 79.49%. This is a big leap from last year’s 56.52%, and far higher than this year’s national average of 29.21%.

With these numbers, VSU earned a spot among the top performing schools in the country. It ranked 8th among institutions with at least 50 examinees. The top rank went to the University of the Philippines-Diliman.

VSU-DCE Head Engr. John Christian A. Gaviola expressed his pride and joy for the excellent performance of DCE’s alumni in the recently concluded board exam.

“I am very proud of our graduates for this outstanding performance in the April 2025 CELE. Their dedication, perseverance, and commitment are the reasons for this achievement”, shared Engr. Gaviola.

This milestone is meaningful given the department’s concerns over the delay in the issuance of the Certificate of Program Compliance (COPCs) from CHED. A COPC is one of the Professional Regulation Commission’s (PRC) requirements for applicants to take the board exams.

This year, the department was awarded COPCs for all five of its specializations, becoming the first in the Visayas region to be granted the certification. This means that the program adheres to the new guidelines of quality standards set by CHED.

This recognition gave Viscan applicants with high hopes to proceed to taking the CELE.

Moreover, the BSCE program also holds Level II accreditation status from the Accredited Agency for Chartered Colleges and Universities of the Philippines (AACCUP), the biggest accreditation body for state universities and colleges (SUCs).

These efforts to adhere to quality standards are the reasons and testaments for why the department achieved this remarkable feat.

“I would like to thank the faculty members, staff, and the VSU administration for their 100% support to all the programs we do in the department, especially with regards to extending quality education to all our engineering students”, the newly designated department head proudly said.

Engr. Gaviola is also committed and hopeful to continuously increase the department’s performance in the board exams to show pride in the department and the university.

“I hope that we will continue this increase in ratings. I believe we can do it in the next board exams if we continue giving our 100% effort to everything we do.”

Of the 16,913 board exam takers in the entire country, PRC announced that 4,940 successfully passed the April 2025 CELE (29.21%).

The board exam was conducted on April 28-29, 2025, at PRC testing centers in NCR, Baguio, Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, and Koronadal.
