Visayas State University (VSU) President Prose Ivy G. Yepes has been elected as the new President of the State Universities and Colleges–Association of Colleges of Agriculture in the Philippines (SUC-ACAP), a national network of public higher education institutions with strong academic and research programs in agriculture and allied sciences.
Dr. Yepes now follows in the footsteps of her predecessor, former VSU President Dr. Edgardo E. Tulin, who served as SUC-ACAP President in 2019.
Nominations for the position were also raised in 2021 and 2023, but the election did not push through due to the pandemic in the former year and the lack of quorum in the latter.
SUC-ACAP brings together state universities and colleges across the country to advance agricultural education, research, and extension.
It also works in partnership with government agencies in formulating strategies that address pressing issues in food security, rural development, and sustainable resource use.
With Dr. Yepes leading the association, VSU gains a stronger platform in shaping national conversations and initiatives in agriculture, the very field where the university has built its reputation as one of the country’s premier institutions.
