Venus P. Gloria, Bachelor of Science in Statistics, topped in the list of graduates with latin honors during the 59th VSU Commencement Exercises held in the morning of April 11, 2012 at the VSU Gymnatorium. As a Magna Cum Laude graduate, Venus received the VSU Presidential Award of Academic Excellence with a cash award of P15,000 for graduating with the highest academic performance. She also received medals as recipient of the Senator Juan Ponce Enrile Award of Excellence, Loren B. Legarda Academic Excellence Award, Senator Loren B. Legarda Leadership Award, and Senator Aquilino Pimentel III Academic Excellence Award.

 

Other Magna Cum Laude graduates who also received special awards were: Richel C. Po (BS in Agribusiness) - Senator Aquilino Pimentel III Excellence Award; Ann Maridel B. Candelario (BS in Agriculture major in Plant Breeding) - Senator Manny Villar Award of Excellence and Gov. Marañon Award of Excellence with a cash award of P10,000; Norma Cecille E. Bagarinao (BS in Food Technology) - Senator Manny Villar Award of Excellence; Vernabelle L. Balmori (BS in Food Technology) - Congressman Jose Carlos L. Cari Award of Excellence and the DOST Award of Excellence; and Louisa Marie O. Bongcales (Bachelor of Elementary Education) - Congressman Jose Carlos L. Cari Award of Excellence.

Aside from the Cum Laude medals they received from the University, other special awards were accorded by some benefactors to the graduates with latin honors:

Marañon Award of Excellence with a cash award of P5,000; and Senator Antonio F. Trillanes IV Award of Excellence - Fatima R. Leya and Karen T. Bullecer.

Other Cum Laude graduates included: Nic Oswald M. Borines, Themna B. Cabal, Reymund L. Ceno, Gilda Marie Q. Anagap, Daisy Joyce C. Telen, Donah Jane C. Lusanta, Cris Q. Cortaga, Jane P. Bertos, Gelyn D. Valida, Renalyn S. Adlawon. Iris Angeli C. David, Charlene B. Roa, Rizajane H. Lamo, Glenis Ann A. Narte, Margery Khaye G. Bantolinao, Jean Katrine L. Boyles, Wenie Jean M. Labides, and Sheena A. Silao. Aside from the medals and special awards, the graduates with latin honors were given Civil Service Eligibility by the Civil Service Commission pursuant to PD 907.

Moreover, Rochelle B. Cagadas, Vanessa Jane M. Acabal, Jayfryl D. Tangog, Pinklet Athena M. Cubian, Mary Jane L. Yare, and Gerry May C. Añonuevo were accorded a With Honors medal in the two-year certificate course, the Certificate of Agriculture Science.

Other graduates also received certificate of recognition with cash award from the Phi Delta Honor Society of Science for winning the search for best thesis in the different sciences. The awardees were: Social Sciences Category – Niño Daryll M. Bicoy; Pure Life Sciences Category – Lilibeth C. Manguilimotan; Physical Sciences Category – Francis A. Roda; and Applied Life Sciences Category – Kurt Nathaniel A. Galvez.
