VSU-Webometrics-Rank-10-2026

Visayas State University (VSU) reclaimed its spot as the Top 10 university in the Philippines in the latest update of the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, as of January 2026.This current ranking is a significant rebound for the university after placing 13th in the previous January 2026 edition.

This return highlights the university’s continued progress in strengthening research productivity, academic visibility, and digital influence, reaffirming VSU’s role as a knowledge-generating institution with regional and global influence.

The university also remains Top 1 in Eastern Visayas, strengthening its standing as the region’s leading institution for research, innovation, and knowledge generation.

Webometrics evaluates universities based on the institution’s web presence, research visibility, and academic impact, making the global ranking an important indicator of how the institutions perform in the digital and research landscape.

VSU President Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes welcomed the latest results, noting that the university has been consistently investing in programs that support faculty research and international publication.

“I am very happy with the results. As a research university, VSU continues to intensify initiatives that encourage its faculty members and researchers to produce quality research and a wider dissemination of their outputs, contributing meaningfully to national and global knowledge,” President Yepes said.

Former University Integrated Media and Public Affairs (UIMPA) Director Mr. Mike Laurence V. Lumen shared his gratitude for VSU’s return to Top 10, acknowledging the efforts behind this achievement.

“2025 was a challenging year, especially with the pressure that comes from having big shoes to fill, given that VSU had been at the top for many years. I am glad to see the university back in the Top 10, and I am grateful for the guidance and support of the VSU administration throughout that period, and of course to the whole UIMPA team who made this possible,” said Mr. Lumen.

Meanwhile, current UIMPA Director Mr. Michael Carlo C. Villas expressed commitment to continue this standing, providing strategies to make VSU remain in the Top 10.

“I am committed to broadening the reach of VSU in the national and international scene by linkaging with the media and our international partners. We hope for the continued support of the current administration in the fulfillment of our mandate to be the internal communications and public affairs arm of the global green university that we are,” said Mr. Villas.

At the regional level, VSU is the only university to consistently rank among the country’s top-performing institutions in global listings. Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) also entered the national Top 100, ranking 97th, making VSU and EVSU the only universities from the region included in the country’s Top 100.

The latest Webometrics ranking update evaluated over 30,000 universities worldwide, with 356 higher education institutions in the country included in the January 2026 release.
