Mabuhay and good day, everyone!
To the officials and staff of Visayas State University, led by your esteemed leadership; to our dedicated partners from the Department of Agriculture; to our honored guests; and most especially to our farmers and fisherfolk—the true backbone of our nation—warmest greetings to all of you.
It is both a privilege and a profound honor to stand before you today as we celebrate the Farmers and Fisherfolk’s Day in line with the 102nd Founding Anniversary of Visayas State University. I extend my sincere gratitude for the invitation and for the opportunity to be part of this meaningful gathering centered on the theme: “Celebrating Service Excellence and Shaping a Resilient Future through Innovation.”
Today, we recognize not only achievements, but the enduring spirit of resilience, dedication, and innovation that defines our agricultural and fisheries sectors. Our farmers and fisherfolk are more than food producers—they are stewards of our natural resources, guardians of our food security, and pillars of our rural communities. Despite the many challenges you face—from climate change and rising production costs to market uncertainties—you continue to persevere with courage and determination.
This is why gatherings like this are so important. Events such as the Learning and Demo Site Visits, the UGMAD Awards, and farmer-to-farmer exchanges are not just activities—they are platforms for empowerment, learning, and recognition. They remind us that progress in agriculture is a shared journey.
Innovation plays a crucial role in this journey. As we move forward, we must continue to embrace science-based solutions, modern technologies, and sustainable practices. But innovation is not only about new tools—it is also about new ways of thinking, collaborating, and empowering our communities.
The Department of Agriculture remains steadfast in its commitment to support initiatives that uplift our farmers and fisherfolk. Through strong partnerships with institutions like Visayas State University, we are able to bridge research and extension, ensuring that knowledge reaches the people who need it most. Our collaboration is a testament to what we can achieve when government, academe, and communities work hand in hand. Together, we can build a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable agricultural sector.
To our awardees today, the UGMAD honorees—your stories inspire us. You represent what is possible when dedication meets opportunity. You are role models in your communities, and your contributions drive the progress of our region. As we celebrate today, let us also look ahead. Let us continue to invest in our people, support innovation, and strengthen partnerships. Let us empower the next generation of farmers and fisherfolk to carry forward this vital mission. In closing, allow me to reaffirm our shared commitment: to uplift lives, ensure food security, and build a future where no Filipino is left behind.
Congratulations to Visayas State University on your 102nd Founding Anniversary.
Congratulations as well to all our farmers, fisherfolk, and awardees.
Maraming salamat at mabuhay tayong lahat!
