The Visayas State University (VSU) moved seven places up from last year’s 35th spot in the Webometrics Ranking of the Philippine Universities released on January 2018.

The Ranking Web or Webometrics is the largest web ranking of Higher Education Institutions in the world. The ranking system started in 2004 and evaluates institutional websites every six months. It looks into the online presence of more than 22,000 university websites around the globe; and is released by the Spanish National Research Council’s Cybermetrics Lab.

Only VSU was included in the top 30 universities among its Eastern Visayan counterparts. Apart from VSU, the University of San Carlos in Cebu, Siliman University in Dumaguete, and University of the Philippines in the Visayas in Iloilo, were the only universities in the Visayas region to be included in the top 30.

The University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman topped this year’s list, followed by De La Salle University Manila. Four (4) out of eight (8) satellite campuses in the whole UP system are in the top 10.

Webometrics assesses the web impact of academic institutions that follows a composite indicator which comprises the universities’ visibility and activity. According to them, “conventional prestige, academic performance, value of information, and usefulness of services” are the indicators of web impact.
