Glenwood Technologies International Inc., an industry leader on food safety testing, shared insights to faculty, scientists and students of Visayas State University in a seminar organized by the Department of Food Science and Technology on October 24, 2019.

Entitled “Innovations in Food Safety Monitoring”, the seminar focused on food safety in the food value chain. The resource speaker of the event was Mr. Jan Benson Cosico of Glenwood.

The seminar aimed to provide awareness about food quality and safety, its importance, and practical ways of ensuring food safety in production, processing, and distribution. 

Participants were exposed to innovative, sensitive, and faster tools that can be used in food safety monitoring, such as tools for biological and chemical hazard monitoring, water quality and residue testing, and thesis applications.

Faculty, and graduate and undergraduate students of VSU’s Department of Food Science and Technology, Department of Horticulture, Department of Animal Science, Department of Agronomy, and Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, joined the seminar.

Teachers from Baybay Senior High School, Baybay National High School, and VSU Integrated High School also attended the event. 

Also present were representatives from the manufacturing and foodservice sectors: Bunga Women’s Association and VSU Guest House, the university’s in-house catering service.

College of Agriculture and Food Science dean Victor B. Asio commended the efforts of DFST and Glenwood Technologies International Inc. for their initiatives to educate people in food manufacturing and production.
