1st DA Award

The Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 8 (DA RFO 8) recognized VSU as one of its outstanding partners in development, specifically in the agri-fishery sectors in Eastern Visayas.

For its 126th Founding Anniversary, the DA RFO 8 organized the “Pasidungog” ceremony to award its internal and external stakeholders who contributed to implementing their programs and projects to address food security issues in our country.

VSU, as an academic and research institution, has been a longtime and dependable partner of DA RFO 8 in many development projects implemented in the region.

“This plaque of appreciation is a recognition of your outstanding and unwavering support to the Department of Agriculture program in empowering farmers and fisherfolk through collective action towards agricultural efficiencies, productivity, sustainability, and resilience,” the citation reads.

In her acceptance message, VSU President Prose Ivy G. Yepes who received the plaque of recognition on June 25, 2024, at the Leyte Academic Center in Palo, Leyte, highlighted that VSU is committed to helping the agency in providing technical assistance to promote the agri-fishery sectors of Eastern Visayas.

As academic institutions, we provide technical assistance to promote sustainable practices such as crop rotation, soil conservation, integrated pest management, and responsible fishing,” President Yepes said.

The Chief Steward of the University also highlighted the importance of looking at the challenges of the current agricultural sector from a brand new perspective to improve its overall benefit for the Filipino people.

“A whole-government approach and systems thinking must likewise be employed to address the complexities of our agri-fishery sectors so we can create synergies that enhance our collective impact. We must dedicate our priority and focus to learning and adopting best practices to enhance our outputs through communication, creative thinking, coordination, and collaboration. Through this, we can achieve remarkable progress in our agri-fishery sectors to ensure a prosperous and sustainable future for the entire region of Eastern Visayas and beyond,” VSU Pres Yepes added.
