About the Program
Global communication in the twenty-first century is possible using a language understood by all. The English language is the medium used in the pursuit of knowledge, the advancement of science and technology, and the business industry development. It gives human kind access to infinite internet resources and thus enables countries to work together to achieve their common goals. New information and research findings are efficiently shared in the international lingua franca. As an official language in the Philippines, English is used in the government and law, education, media, business, and industry. As such, there is a demand for graduates who have adequate faciltity of English and can competently and effectively use the language in different contexts and for various purposes.
Bachelor of Arts in English Language Studies aims to provide comprehensive knowledge of the English language, enhance students' competencies in the use of the English language in real-world contexts, and heighten students' awareness of how English works in different situations both in the local and international arena.

“I am Jennifer T. Malanguis, and I graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Arts in English Language batch 2019. When I was still a student, I was the President of the AB English Language Society (2018-2019), a course-related organization recognized by the University Student Service Office of the Visayas State University. During my term, the ABEL Society was nominated as one of the Best Course-Related Society in the university (Top 5). I was also nominated as one of the Leadership Awardees in the university. Apart from being the President of the ABEL Society, I was also a student leader in the College of Arts and Sciences. I am also a VSU-Debate Society Alumnus. We won and competed in different intercollegiate debate tournaments in the region giving pride to our dear university.”
“As of the moment, I am in the second year of my Master's degree (Masters of Science in Language Teaching Minor in Agricultural Education) while teaching in the Department of Liberal Arts and Behavioral Sciences. I am handling English, Literature, and sometimes social science subjects to college and Senior High School students.”
“I am Daniel Joseph T. Tan, and I graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Arts in English Language on 2019. When I was still a student, I was the secretary of the AB English Language Society, a course-related organization, and it was during our term, the society got recognized as one of the top five best course-related organizations in VSU. Also, in 2018, I won first place for the Story Telling Competition for the 2nd VSU Culture and theArts Center Festival 2018. This is currently the third year working in DLABS as an language and literature instructor. On 2020, I have the privilege of being a part of a research team with R. Toring, M. G. Perez, H. Pedrera, P. E. Tubigan, led by Dr. L. A. Liwanag. With my team, I have presented our paper in a national conference in DLSU, and a local conference in UGAT. In my good conscience, I do not believe that I am a "notable" alumnus, but I will try my best to uphold the lessons I learned in my undergrad."
Jade Barachiel D. Bantasan is an Instructor in the College of Arts and Sciences- Department of Liberal and Behavioral Sciences of the Visayas State University where he has taught English and Literature, Social Science, and Senior High subjects. He graduated Bachelor of Arts major in English Language from the Visayas State University and a Master of Science in Language Teaching from the same institution. His interests include language teaching, literature, video games, and student engagement.
Graduated ABEL class of 2018 at VSU, cum laude, currently studying MSLT at VSU, worked at DLABS since 2018-present.
