BuloKasadpan, a portmanteau of Cebuano words bulok which means color, and kasadpan or west, showcases paintings that artistically represent the “Colors of the West.”

The exhibit features 29 artworks by five artists:

cana

Lolito Caña is a member of a visual artists’ group Hugpong Sabado in Baybay City, and has been joining several art exhibits in Baybay, and Cebu City. He is a multi-awarded painter recognized for his creativity in logo and poster designs.

cerna

Mizael Cerna is currently the artist-illustrator at the Institute for Strategic Research and Development Studies at VSU. Also a member of Hugpong Sabado, this realist painter has also been recognized in several art competitions. Cerna’s acrylic and oil paintings of countryside landscapes in the Philippines attract local and international art collectors.

Domingo “Bebot” Flandez  favors the use of oil, acrylc, watercolour, pastel, and charcoal in his paintings. He is a member of Hugpong Sabado, and KASIKASI Art Association Inc. in Tacloban City. Flandez had joined quite a number of exhibitions and received awards from many “on-the-spot” art competitions.

Rico Acebedo Palacio is an active member for the Atitipalo Visual Arts Group in Palo, Leyte, and the KASIKASI Art Association, Inc. He works as an artist-illustrator at the DA Agricultral Training Institute-Regional Training Center. A mixed media sculptor and painter, Palacio’s works were once brought to Japan by the Peace Development Fund.

Billy Pomida is a Fine Arts graduate of the University of the East in Manila. A full-time painter, he joined international exhibitions including a series of three-man shows in Los Angeles, California, and group shows in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. One of his paintings graced the cover of the Art Malaysia International Art Fair 2008 magazine. Owing to his numerous awards, he became a Hall of Famer of the Kulay sa Tubig Annual Invitational Watercolor Competition and Exhibition in Manila. Pomida is currently the Committee for Visual Arts-Eastern Visayas Coordinator and a member of the Kolor Sugbi Art Group, KASIKASI Art Association, and the Philippine Portrait Artist Society. 

Organized by the VSU Alumni Association Inc. (VSUAAI) and the Alumni Community Relations Office (ACRO), the art exhibit is open until August 11. Some 20% of the total sales from the exhibit will go to the VSUAAI scholarship fund. From 2013-2015, VSUAAI was able to generate PhP101,270.90 which benefitted three graduating students at VSU.  

The opening of the art exhibit was preceded by a soft blessing of the new Balay Alumni, which is located across the ACRO Building.
