USSC holds leadership camp for budding student-leaders

The University Supreme Student Council (USSC) with the leadership of Miss Claire Larzen Z. Tello, USSC President, conducted the First T.I.M.E. Congress on March 6-7, 2015 at the VSU Center for Continuing Education and at the VSU Garden Beach Resort. The Congress is the University-wide leadership camp for the budding student-leaders of the Visayas State University System which focused on the four areas: Train, Initiate, Manage, and Explore (T.I.M.E.).

With funding support of more than PhP2-million from the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD) and as a member of the abaca rehab coalition spearheaded by the WorldFish, the Department of Science and Technology in Region 8 (DOST-8) conducted an inception meeting for its S&T community-based farm project on abaca with its cooperating agencies: abaca farmer-representatives, LGUs of Sogod and other abaca rehab coalition members on February 20, 2015 at the Municipal Hall of Sogod, So. Leyte.

The Visayas State University (VSU) conducted the Annual Honors and Awards Convocation Program on March 3, 2015 at the VSU Gymnatorium. Spearheaded by the University Student Service Office (USSO) under the leadership of Engr. Manolo B. Loreto, Jr., Dean of Students, the occasion recognized the academic achievements of some undergraduate and graduate students of the University as well as in their co-curricular activities.

The Department of Development Communication headed by Dr. Christina A. Gabrillo, the Development Communication Society, together with the University Student Services Office and DYDC-FM, organized on February 24, 2015 a seminar on Anti-Sexual Harassment and Anti-Hazing Awareness at the VSU Center for Continuing Education. It was participated in by college and high school students of the University. The seminar was also sponsored by CAFS-GAD and ASHO.

The Visayas State University, being proud of the achievements of its graduates who would inspire the honorees and awardees, had invited the Chief Executive of Mandaue City, Honorable Jonas C. Cortes, as the guest of honor and speaker during the Honors and Awards Convocation Program in the afternoon of March 3, 2015 at the VSU Gymnatorium. Mayor Cortes earned his Bachelor of Animal Science (BAS) degree in 1987 from the then Visayas State College of Agriculture (ViSCA), now VSU.
