The Visayas State University (VSU) and the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) have formalized an agreement to conduct a study that will revisit and profile rice-based products in Leyte which will open opportunities for food innovation and market expansion in the province. 

Commissioner Dr. Myrna Q. Mallari, former President of Tarlac State University (TSU) and past head of the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), has been designated as the new Chairperson of the Visayas State University (VSU) Governing Board. She succeeds Dr. Ethel Agnes P. Valenzuela, whose term as Commissioner has concluded.

Twenty-four (24) graduates from Visayas State University Tolosa passed the October 2025 Fisheries Professionals Licensure Examination, according to the results released by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).

Researchers from the Visayas State University Tolosa (VSU Tolosa) and VSU Alangalang presented their work under the Aquadapt Project during the International Conference on Fisheries and Aquaculture (ICFA) 2025, held on September 16-17, 2025, in Nha Trang, Vietnam. 

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has formally recognized Visayas State University (VSU) as a Delivering Higher Education Institution (DHEI) under the Scholarships for Staff and Instructors’ Knowledge Advancement Program (SIKAP). This designation enables the university to host and manage government-funded scholars beginning academic year 2025-2026

When people think of Leyte, the images that usually come to mind are its history, stunning landscapes, or delicacies like binagol and moron. Yet, hidden within its forests is a tiny creature that represents one of the island’s most remarkable natural treasures–the North Philippine Dwarf Kingfisher (Ceyx melanurus).

Nearly 400 Sanguniang Kabataan (SK) officials from Baybay City strengthened their leadership perspective during a two-day training on value-based leadership facilitated by the Visayas State University-Guidance and Counseling Office (VSU-GCO) on August 24-25, 2025 at the Binaybayon Convention Center, Brgy. Hibunawan.
