Of the sixty-three (63) Good Agri-Aqua Livelihood Initiatives towards National Goals (GALING) PCAARRD Kontra Krisis Projects (GPKK) approved for funding by the Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD) nationwide, five projects will be implemented in the Visayas under the leadership of the Visayas Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (ViCARP) hosted by Visayas State University (VSU).

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has approved the Doctor of Medicine program, paving the way for the Visayas State University to welcome its first batch of medical students beginning Academic Year 2026–2027. Granted through the Office of Programs and Standards Development (OPSD) and the Technical Panel for Medical Education, the approval covers the first- and second-year levels.

For generations of VSU students, completing a thesis or dissertation often meant preparing several hardbound copies before graduation. Aside from the academic work itself, students had to spend thousands of pesos on printing and binding, often at a time when they were already managing graduation expenses, job applications, board examination preparations, and other end-of-program requirements.

Every year, many cacao farmers lose a large part of their harvest because of black pod disease, one of the most destructive diseases affecting cacao farms. Once the infection spreads, entire pods rot, harvests decrease, and farmers lose both time and income.
