In preparation for the second semester in 2018, the Visayas State University launched four (4) new transport loop units called the “Tuyok”, a Cebuano term that means ‘to go around’. The transport system was inaugurated together with the newly acquired VSU ambulance during the Christmas lighting ceremony held at the VSU Mall on December 1, 2017.

The Tuyok units are retrofitted Mitsubishi L300 units with tour-ready seats, and environment-friendly engines that use biodiesel for fuel.

President Edgardo E. Tulin, in his State of the University Address (SUA) in November 2017, said that the rides will be free-of-charge for the month of December. However, a minimal fare will be imposed starting January 2018 to pay for fuel and vehicle drivers.  He hopes that the loop system would somehow spare the VSU community from the long walks around the campus.

The inauguration was part of the annual Pasko sa VSU celebration, a Christmas lighting activity spearheaded by the Office of the President.

“Let this season be a time of reflection, a reason for thanksgiving especially thanking God for the gift of life, that we are still alive. Let us also take time to reflect and live the real spirit of Christmas,” said Dr. Tulin.

The event concluded with a fireworks display and a live band jam.
